Gertrude Buhrow

Gertrude Buhrow 94, of Tripoli, died Friday, February 26, at Tripoli Nursing and Rehab.

Funeral Services will be held at Faith United Church of Christ in Tripoli on Thursday, March 5, 2015, at 10:30 a.m.  Burial will follow at Faith United Church of Christ Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at Rettig Funeral Home in Tripoli and for one hour preceding services on Thursday at the church. Memorials may be made in her name to Faith United Church of Christ in Tripoli. 

Gertrude, daughter of Herman and Minnie (Redies) Schweer, was born September 28, 1920, at home on the family farm in rural Tripoli. She was baptized October 24, 1920 and confirmed March 25, 1934 at St. John Lutheran Church-Crane Creek. She attended country school near Tripoli. She was united in marriage with Stanley Buhrow on May 26, 1940 at St. John Lutheran Church-Crane Creek. The couple made their home on a farm near Tripoli, where Gertrude assisted Stanley for many years. The couple retired in 1986. She was a long time member of Faith United Church of Christ, where she was very active for many years. Gertrude enjoyed crocheting, knitting, cooking, and baking.

She is survived by her two children, daughter, Darlyce Steere of Greene, Iowa; son, Kenny (Darlys) Buhrow of Tripoli; ten grandchildren; fifteen great- grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Larry (Linda) Schweer of Tripoli; two sisters, Arlene Bunger of Fort Dodge, and Leona Heath of Grundy Center.

In addition to her parents, Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley on February 9, 2010; one son-in-law, Earl Steere; and two brothers, Donald and Alfred Schweer.
